A lot of teachers have students working on capstone projects that culminates with a presentation. Let’s face it —very few people are comfortable presenting. Here are some tips to ease the pain and help students build professional presentation building skills for life.

Reflecting on presentation material

Are your students taking time to document, reflect and understand the processes they used to construct and deliver their presentation? Documenting the process and reflecting on the project can be just as insightful in understanding a learner’s growth as the final piece is.

Below are some questions for reflection to help your students organize their thoughts and reflect on what they have learned and how they want to present it.

In addition to responding to these reflection prompts, have students collect artifacts during the process of constructing the project (pictures, videos, snapshots). Have students purposefully consider, in real time, what steps should be documented to present a clear and chronological depiction of their process.

Tips on harnessing the power of the right tools for an effective presentation

Visual, interactive presentations are just better. We know the one-size-fits-all learning method doesn’t work anymore. Your students can be presenting information in more than one way, whether it means an image, video, audio file or more.
